Pebble Beach 2022: Best of Show la Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo del 1932

Al 71esimo Concorso d’Eleganza di Pebble Beach è stata nominata Best of Show una Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo del 1932.  Le donazioni di beneficenza del 2022 hanno superato i 2,67 milioni di dollari.

La Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo del 1932 di Lee R. Anderson Sr. ha vinto il primo premio all’edizione 2022 del Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance davanti ad altre 39 auto storiche provenienti da 18 paesi e 33 stati. “Questa rara Duesenberg sposa la potenza americana con lo stile europeo”, ha detto la presidente del Concorso Sandra Button. “Ha fatto bene in alcuni dei primi raduni e concorsi. Poi, la sua storia ha preso una svolta. La sua risurrezione è una storia di pura passione”.

Il settimo sigillo. L’ultima volta che un’automobile americana aveva vinto l’ambitissimo Best of Show a Pebble Beach era stato nell’ormai lontano 2013, quando una Packard Twelve del 1934 aveva conquistato il primo posto. Duesenberg, tuttavia, è il marchio americano più vincente a Pebble Beach, con sette vittorie complessive.

“Mamma mia, siamo sopraffatti”, ha esclamato Penny Anderson, la moglie del proprietario, un attimo dopo la consegna del trofeo. “Non possiamo credere di aver vinto il Best of Show! Abbiamo incontrato così tante persone nel corso degli anni, apprezzato tutte le persone che partecipano. È solo una gioia e un onore essere qui”. “Lo facciamo da anni, e ci siamo avvicinati in passato”, ha aggiunto il marito Lee, “ma in realtà non abbiamo mai vinto, quindi Penny ha ragione, è travolgente. Tutta la preparazione: la storia dietro questa vettura è semplicemente incredibile. C’è solo una Duesenberg Figoni ed è proprio questa qui. Siamo così eccitati”.

Premiata la Runabout. La combattutissima gara di quest’anno per l’assegnazione del Best of Show ha visto altri forti contendenti, tra cui la Talbot-Lago T150C-SS Figoni & Falaschi Teardrop Coupé del 1937 di Fritz Burkard, la Duesenberg J Graber Cabriolet del 1930 di Sam ed Emily Mann e la Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport Stabilimenti Farina Cabriolet del 1951 di Merle e Peter Mullin. Tra le vetture premiate, anche l’Autobianchi A112 Bertone Runabout del 1969 iscritta dall’Automotoclub Storico Italiano e guidata in passerella dal nostro collaboratore Daniele Turrisi.

Il Concorso d’Eleganza di Pebble Beach ha raccolto quest’anno più di 2,67 milioni di dollari per beneficenza quest’anno, portando la quota complessiva della raccolta a oltre $ 35 milioni fino ad oggi. Attraverso la Pebble Beach Company Foundation, il principale partner di beneficenza del Concours, questi fondi andranno a oltre 95 enti di solidarietà locali, con un impatto sulla vita di oltre 10.000 bambini ogni anno nella contea di Monterey.
